Conveniently located near the Shilshole Marina, this popular spot is a launching point for numerous fishing and sailing trips. I spent many days here photographing birds and praying for a glimpse of orcas. With stunning views, abundant wildlife, and diverse activities, Golden Gardens offers something special for everyone.

Wildlife Spotting at Golden Gardens

One of the main attractions of Golden Gardens is its incredible diversity of wildlife. Despite its proximity to urban Seattle, visitors can regularly encounter:

• Bald eagles
• Great blue herons
• Tide pool creatures like crabs and starfish
• Sea lions
• Harbor seals
• River otters
• Orcas
• Gray whales
• Beavers
• Even occasional turtles

The unique ecological combination of freshwater ponds, a natural stream, lush forests, and saltwater beaches attracts various species. Nearby Shilshole Marina draws marine mammals like sea lions, harbor seals, and river otters, as well as a wide array of bird species.

The early morning sunlight highlighted their powerful blows, creating an unforgettable scene. Observing a large male alongside a mother orca and her baby was a reminder of the incredible wildlife encounters possible right here at Golden Gardens.
